Overview

PawTalk ("we", "us") is a mobile app that reads your pet's mood from a photo using AI, gives your pet a voice, and lets you collect and share the results. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use PawTalk, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

By using PawTalk you agree to this policy. If you don't agree with it, please don't use the app — though we'd be sad, and so would your pet.

What we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and a unique user ID from the sign-in provider via Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your password.

Pet photos and mood readings

When you scan your pet, the photo you capture is sent securely to our servers so our AI can read your pet's mood. Photos and the resulting mood readings may be stored in your account so you can revisit your collection.

Purchase information

If you subscribe to PawTalk Pro, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We receive only a subscription status (for example "Pro active until date") through our subscription manager, RevenueCat. We never receive your card number or billing details.

Usage counters

We keep a simple counter of how many free scans you've used each week so we can enforce the free tier fairly.

Device permissions

  • Camera — required to scan your pet. Used only while you're scanning.
  • Photo library — used only when you choose to save a clip to your gallery.
  • Notifications — optional, local reminders only. We don't use push-marketing.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, browsing history, or any advertising identifiers.

How we use your information

  • To read your pet's mood and generate their voice — the core of the app.
  • To keep your mood collection and clips tied to your account across devices.
  • To know whether you're on the free tier or Pro, and apply the right limits.
  • To prevent abuse of our AI services (device integrity checks via Firebase App Check).
  • To respond when you contact us for support.

That's it. We don't build advertising profiles, and we don't use your data to train our own AI models.

AI processing

Two AI services power PawTalk, and it's worth being clear about exactly what each one sees:

Mood reading — Google Gemini

Your pet's photo is analyzed by Google's Gemini model through Firebase AI Logic (Google Cloud Vertex AI). The photo is processed to produce a mood reading and what your pet "says". Google processes this data as our service provider under Google Cloud's data processing terms.

Voice generation — ElevenLabs

The short text of what your pet says (never your photo, never your personal details) is sent to ElevenLabs to generate the spoken voice. Some voices are generated on your device instead, using your phone's built-in text-to-speech.

Mood readings are for entertainment. PawTalk is not a veterinary tool — if your pet seems unwell, please see a vet.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers below, only so the app can work. Each processes data on our behalf under their own privacy commitments:

ProviderPurposeWhat they process
Google FirebaseSign-in, storage, database, abuse preventionAccount info, pet photos, mood readings, usage counters
Google Gemini (Vertex AI)AI mood readingPet photos during analysis
ElevenLabsVoice generationThe text your pet "says"

Apple / GooglePayments & sign-inHandled under their own privacy policies

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal information — to anyone, ever.
  • We don't show ads and don't share data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We don't use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
  • We don't record your surroundings — clips are built from your scan and the app's own generated audio, on your device.
  • We don't post anything anywhere. Sharing a clip always goes through your phone's share sheet, under your control.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists, so your mood collection is there when you come back.

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data (photos, mood readings, counters) at any time by contacting us at the address below. We complete deletion requests within 30 days. Clips saved to your own device or shared to other platforms are under your control and aren't affected by our deletion.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under GDPR and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Data portability.

To exercise any of these rights, just contact us — no forms, no hoops. We don't discriminate against you for exercising your rights, and since we never sell data, there's nothing to opt out of selling.

Children's privacy

PawTalk is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it promptly.

Security

All data travels over encrypted connections (TLS). Photos and account data are stored on Google Cloud infrastructure with per-user access rules, and our AI endpoints are protected by Firebase App Check so only genuine copies of the app can reach them. No system is 100% secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. Continued use of PawTalk after a change means you accept the updated policy.
